Jones Point Lighthouse Turns 150

A ceremony commemorating the 150th birthday of the Jones Point Lighthouse will be held Friday, May 5, at 2 pm. The event will be held at the site, which is located at 100 Jones Point Drive, in Alexandria in the shadow of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. The ceremony is sponsored by the Mt. Vernon and Margaret Whitten chapters of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Sailing Club of Washington.

The Jones Point Lighthouse is one of our country's oldest river lighthouses. Authorized by Congress in 1852, the wooden structure was built in 1856.
