Barricade Situation Ends Peacefully in Alexandria

A man who had barricaded himself in an Alexandria hotel room for several hours has surrendered to police. The 53-year-old Missouri man will be taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Police were called to the Hilton Mark Center at 5000 Seminary Road at 8:44 a.m. today after workers there reported a disorderly subject yelling and acting strangely. The man had thrown appliances and other objects out of the fifth floor room and refused to come out when police arrived.

This afternoon, after speaking with members of the Hostage Negotiations Team, the man came out on his own and surrendered to a member of the Special Operations Team. He was taken into custody at 2:15 p.m. He was unarmed and did not appear to be injured. Criminal charges may be pending.
