Man Barricaded in Alexandria Hotel

Alexandria police are on the scene of a barricade situation in a West End hotel. Police were called to the Hilton Mark Center at 5000 Seminary Road at 8:44 a.m. today after workers there reported a disorderly subject yelling and acting strangely.

Officers arrived and found that the man had thrown appliances and other objects out of the fifth floor room. The man refused to come out and has continued to behave erratically.

Police learned that the man, a 53-year-old from Missouri, was part of a team of contractors renovating rooms at the hotel complex. He has made threatening statements and though he is alone in the room, police are concerned for his welfare. It is not known if the man is armed with any weapon.

Members of the Hostage Negotiations and Special Operations teams are on the scene, and other officers are assisting with traffic and perimeter security. No one has been evacuated and the only road impacted is the hotel service road which has restricted access.
