Alexandria Commission for the Arts Seeks Proposals from Artists

The Alexandria Commission for the Arts is seeking proposals from artists to create up to five works of art to be presented as the 2006 Alex Awards. All proposals must be submitted to the Alexandria Commission for the Arts, 1108 Jefferson St., by 4 pm on Monday, June 5.

The annual awards program promotes the interest and involvement in the arts in the artistic, business, community, and educational sectors. The program recognizes excellence in four categories: excellence in an artistic discipline; excellence in service to the arts; outstanding contributions to arts education; and innovative partnerships between businesses and the arts.

The 2006 Alex Awards will be presented at a citywide event on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Center, 1605 Cameron St. Winners of the awards will receive a commissioned work of art from an artist who works or lives in Alexandria.

For more information or to obtain a Call to Artists form, call the Alexandria Commission for the Arts at 703.838.6348, or e-mail alexandriacommissionforthearts@verizon.net.
