City of Alexandria Selects Brian Hannigan
As New Director of Communications

The City of Alexandria has selected Brian Hannigan as its new Director of Communications. As the city's first Director of Communications, Hannigan will direct and coordinate the City's public information and community outreach efforts, and serve as the City's chief spokesperson.

Brian Hannigan previously served as Communications Director for the Virginia Baseball Stadium Authority. During his tenure at the Stadium Authority, he was responsible for publicizing Northern Virginia's assets as a viable home for a Major League Baseball franchise. He also designed and authored the Stadium Authority's publications and website content.

“I am very pleased to have this opportunity to establish Alexandria's leadership in public sector communications,” said Hannigan. "Alexandria is an exciting and dynamic center of activity within this important region. I want to assemble a team of professionals within city government that will consistently and effectively communicate Alexandria's many advantages, programs and activities."

Hannigan’s other previous positions include serving as Chief Deputy Director for the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, as managing director of a privately owned public affairs company, and as associate director of a pharmaceutical trade association.

“Brian Hannigan will help us take Alexandria's public communications strategy to the next level,” said City Manager Jim Hartmann. “He is a skilled professional with an established reputation in communications and with the local media.”
