City of Alexandria Selects Yon Lambert
As New Pedestrian and Bicycle Coordinator

The City of Alexandria has selected Yon Lambert as its new Pedestrian and Bicycle Coordinator. As the Pedestrian and Bicycle Coordinator, Lambert will partner with City staff, community groups, and other agencies to continually improve Alexandria’s walking and bicycling infrastructure.

Lambert, who grew up in Arlington County, holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of South Carolina and has taken courses towards a master’s degree in public administration at Clemson University. In 2005, he was a Knight Fellow in Community Building at the University of Miami School of Architecture.

He has worked since 1999 as the Deputy Director of the Palmetto Conservation Foundation (PCF), a statewide non-profit in South Carolina. Working on the 425-mile Palmetto Trail and related projects, Lambert acquired rights-of-way, and planned or oversaw the construction of urban greenways, bicycle paths, rails-to-trails, and a Braille Trail. Since 1989, PCF has raised millions of private and public funds for open space conservation, historic preservation, parks, and bicycle-pedestrian infrastructure.

Lambert is an avid cyclist and runner. He has completed the 103-mile Assault on Mount Mitchell bicycle ride and has traveled widely to rock climb. In 2002, he co-authored a guidebook, “Selected Climbs in North Carolina,” for The Mountaineers, a Seattle-based publisher.
