Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities
Invites Proposals for Project Funding

The Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities (ACPD) is seeking applications from nonprofit organizations and other community groups for the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services’ Rehabilitative Services Incentive Fund (RSIF).

The RSIF promotes investment in meeting the needs of individuals with physical and/or sensory disabilities by addressing gaps in services, supporting innovative programs, and improving coordination in service delivery.

Among other things, the RSIF provides seed money to address the needs identified by a local Disability Service Board like the ACPD for program innovation and coordination of services in the development of community-based and consumer-focused services. Individual project grants for fiscal year 2007 may be up to $15,000 and require a local 10 percent match.

These unmet or underserved gaps, which need change or improvement to increase the quality of life for individuals in the community with physical and/or sensory disabilities, are identified through a triennial Needs Assessment Report.

The RSIF process is competitive and has a limited statewide budget of $180,000. The ACPD can accept and submit for consideration only one project proposal that will benefit Alexandrians with disabilities. This year, the proposals are to be reviewed, scored, and awarded by the Virginia Disability Services Council.

The ACPD encourages organizations to submit a proposal. RSIF grants have provided sustainable programs, which have demonstrated long-standing and ongoing benefits to residents of Alexandria.

For a complete RSIF application package or a copy of the ACPD’s 2006 Needs Assessment, visit alexandriava.gov/human/RSIF_info.html.

RSIF proposals are due no later than April 1 to Mike Hatfield, Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities, 421 King St., Suite 400, Alexandria, VA 22314, or by e-mail to mike.hatfield@alexandriava.gov.
