Public Invited to Attend Community Meeting
On America’s 400th Jamestown Anniversary Celebration

The public is invited to attend a community meeting to discuss the location options for America's 400th Jamestown Anniversary Celebration scheduled to be held in late May along the Alexandria waterfront. The meeting will take place on Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 pm at the Radisson Hotel Old Town Alexandria, 901 N. Fairfax St. Alexandria was selected as one of six cities to host the celebration.

Festivities for the event will include historic and educational exhibits, musical shows, children's theatre, and tours of a replica of The Godspeed – one of three ships that brought America’s first permanent English settlers to Virginia in 1607.

Proposed locations for the celebration include Founders Park, the City Marina, and Waterfront Park. During the meeting, residents will review, discuss, and develop solutions for City Council to consider at its meeting on Feb. 14. Issues to be considered include parking, traffic, transportation, park maintenance, noise, safety, docking facilities, and the duration of the event.

For additional information on the community meeting, call Janet Barnett, Deputy Director of the City’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, at 703.838.4842.
