City of Alexandria Hosts Information Sessions
For Public Input on Proposed Addition to Recycling Ordinance

The City of Alexandria will host two information sessions to solicit public input on an upcoming proposed addition to the City’s current recycling ordinance. The sessions will take place on Monday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8 pm at the Fairlington Villages Community Center, 3005 S. Abingdon St. in Arlington; and Thursday, Jan. 26, from 4 to 5 pm at the Oswald Durant Center, 1605 Cameron St.

In order to comply with the City Council-approved Solid Waste Management Plan and state recycling requirements, the City’s Solid Waste Division is proposing updates to the current ordinance to include recycling requirements for commercial properties and multi-family dwellings, such as apartment complexes and condominiums.

The ordinance was drafted with assistance from the Recycling Advisory Committee, a group of stakeholders comprised of representatives from businesses, property management companies, homeowner’s associations, and waste haulers.

For more information on the sessions, call Christine McCoy of the Solid Waste Division at 703.519.3486.
