Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services For Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday State Offices Also Closed on Jan. 13 for Lee-Jackson Day Alexandria City government offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 14, and Monday, Jan. 16. Alexandria City Public Schools will be closed on Jan. 16. In addition, all City libraries will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16. Residential trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday, Jan. 16. All collection services will be delayed by one day the week of Jan. 16 as it has been the City’s practice on past holidays. The Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, Mt. Vernon, William Ramsay and Nannie J. Lee recreation centers will be open on Jan. 16 from 9 am to 6 pm. The Chinquapin Recreation Center will be open from 6 am to 6 pm on Jan. 16. DASH bus service will operate on a Saturday schedule on Jan. 16. In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits on Jan. 13 and 16. All other parking regulations will be in effect. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington Street and Route 1 will be lifted on Jan. 13 and Jan. 16. State Offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department will be closed on Friday, Jan. 13 and Monday, Jan. 16. The Alexandria Office on Women emergency hotlines will be fully staffed and operational on Monday, Jan. 16. The domestic violence hotline, 703.838.4911, and sexual assault hotline, 703.683.7273, as with all Office on Women hotlines, operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. # # # |
