Programs Scheduled to Honor Martin Luther King Jr.


The public is invited to participate in programs in Alexandria in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. The 33rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Program is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1427 W. Braddock Rd.. Rev. Duane Kay, pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, will serve as the ceremony’s guest speaker. The Gospel Truth of Meade Memorial Episcopal Church will perform. The event is sponsored by the City of Alexandria in cooperation with local religious, civic, and social organizations. Other activities during the month include:

Friday, Jan. 13, at 7:30 pm Youth Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King at the Departmental Progressive Club, 411 Gibbon St.. The event is sponsored by the Departmental Progressive Club.


Monday, Jan. 16, from 1- 3 pm Martin Luther King Media Presentation & Exhibit at City Hall, 301 King St., in the Vola Lawson Lobby, first floor. The event is co-sponsored by the Alexandria Society for the Preservation of Black Heritage, Inc., and the Alexandria Black History Museum.
