City of Alexandria Offers New Classes in Music, Dance, Theatre,
And Visual Arts at Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Center

The City of Alexandria is offering new classes in music, dance, theatre, and visual arts at the Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Center, the City’s multicultural center for the performing and visual arts. The center, which is located at 1605 Cameron St., will begin registration for its winter 2006 class session now through Friday, Jan. 13. Classes will begin the week of Jan. 23.

New classes that are designed specifically for children, ages 18 months to 4 years old, include ART START, a unique art program for toddlers and preschoolers that is facilitated by an experienced art therapist; and Catriona’s Castle, a hands-on children’s theater where costumes, props, and scenery are provided for participants to act out children’s classics, such as “Cinderella,” “Peter Pan,” and “The Wizard of Oz.”

Classes for all members of the family include Music Tots where children and their parents or caregivers participate in a class of fun, educational music and movement; and the Dream in Color Inc. Dance Program, which offers instruction in hip hop, ballet, modern, tap, and jazz dance for all ages.

For additional information and a complete list of classes, or to register for classes, call the Durant Center at 703.519.3494, or visit alexandriava.gov/recreation.
