City of Alexandria Announces Holiday Schedule
For Dec. 23 and 26, and Jan. 2


Alexandria City government offices will be closed for the holidays on Friday, Dec. 23, Monday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 2.

City schools will be closed beginning Dec. 23 and will remain closed through Jan. 2. Students will return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

City libraries will be closed on Dec. 23, 24, 25, and 26, and Jan. 1; and close at 5 pm on Saturday, Dec. 31.

During the weeks of Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, trash and recycling collection services will be collected on the regular schedule and will not be affected by the holidays. However, the Solid Waste Division Office and the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 2.

All City of Alexandria recreation centers will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Jan 1. The Chinquapin Park Recreation Center will be open from 6 am to 6 pm on Dec. 23, Dec. 26, and Jan. 2. On Dec. 31, the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center will operate from 8 am to 3 pm. The Ford Nature Center will be open from 10 am to 5 pm on Dec. 23 and Dec. 31. The Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, William Ramsay, Nannie J. Lee, and Mt. Vernon full-time recreation centers will open from 9 am to 9 pm on Dec. 23; and from 9 am to 6 pm on Dec. 26, Dec. 31, and Jan. 2.

The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Dec. 23, Dec. 24, Dec. 26, Dec. 31, and Jan. 2.

There will be no DASH bus service on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington Street will be lifted on Dec. 23, Dec. 26, and Jan. 2.

In accordance with Virginia State Law, the City will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Friday, Dec. 23, Monday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 2. State Offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department will be closed on Dec. 23, Dec. 26, and Jan. 2.

The Alexandria Office on Women emergency hotlines will be fully staffed and operational on Friday, Dec. 23, Monday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 2. The domestic violence hotline, 703.838.4911, and sexual assault hotline, 703.683.7273, as with all Office on Women hotlines, operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
