Alexandra Police to Receive Segway Tomorrow;
Alexandria Police Foundation Purchases and Donates Segway

The Alexandria Police Foundation is purchasing a Segway and then donating it to the Alexandria Police Department. Tomorrow officials from the APF and Segway will present Chief Charles E. Samarra and his department with a new i180 Police Segway Human Transporter.

The presentation will be held in the parking lot behind 515 North Washington Street at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16. Uniformed officers will also be present to try out the newest addition to the police fleet.

Says Chief Samarra, “We greatly appreciate the generosity of the Alexandria Police Foundation in purchasing the Segway for our department. It will be especially useful during parade and festivals and while patrolling streets with lots of foot traffic.”

APF chairman Shawn McLaughlin and Capital Segway store owner Rep Burks and sales representative Clarence R. Edwards are expected to attend tomorrow’s event.

The entire cost of the new Segway will be paid for with money raised by the APF. For more information about the APF, please visit http://www.alexandriapolicefoundation.org/. For Segway i180 specifications, please visit http://www.segway.com/segway/model_police.html.
