WNBA Awards Up to $25,000 to City of Alexandria
For Facility Enhancements and Literacy Opportunities

The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) is awarding up to $25,000 to the City of Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities for facility enhancements and literacy opportunities. WNBA officials will present the award, which is part of the WNBA’s Court of Dreams Program, to Mayor William D. Euille at 2 pm on Monday, Oct. 31, at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center, 2701 Commonwealth Ave.

The WNBA established the Court of Dreams Program to help local communities renovate basketball courts, and create spaces for youth literacy programs. Mr. Rodney Hunt of RSI Systems in McLean, VA, the 2005 Court of Dreams Program grand-prize winner, has designated the Mount Vernon Recreation Center to receive the award on his behalf. The award will be used for minor renovations in the Mount Vernon Recreation Center’s gymnasium, and to purchase furnishings for a reading area in the center’s lobby.

For more information on the award, and recreational programs and services offered by the City, call William Chesley, Division Chief of Recreation Services, at 703.838.4345.
