Walkers Needed for Oct. 22 Walk to Fight Breast Cancer
Run, Don’t Walk, to the Walk

Alexandria’s Walk to Fight Breast Cancer is just around the corner, and it is time for residents to lace up their walking shoes to participate in this 12th annual event. The Walk will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 8 am. Registration is $35 for adults and $10 for children. Walkers can choose from a 1.5K/3.5K/5K walk or run. Registration and parking will be located at AMC Hoffman Center Theatres, with free DASH shuttle service to the Walk route.

As a reminder, walkers who pre-register and pick up their shirts in advance at the Alexandria Office on Women do not need to check in at registration on Saturday. They can park at the AMC Hoffman Center Theatres and board buses to go directly to the Walk. Shirts can be picked up this week between 8am and 5pm at the Alexandria Office on Women, located at 421 King Street, Suite 400 in Old Town. All participants are encouraged to arrive to the AMC Hoffman Center Theatres no later than 7:45am in order to arrive on time at the Walk.

Residents and local businesses are encouraged to form teams and obtain pledges for the Walk. The youth, adult, and team that raise the most money will be eligible for great prizes, such as gift certificates at local restaurants, weekend hotel packages, salon and spa gift certificates, and more! All proceeds from the Walk go to support the Alexandria Breast Cancer Walk Fund, which has provided free mammography screenings at Inova Alexandria Hospital to more than 2,200 women since its inception.

Residents can log on to the web site, www.alexcancerwalk.com, to register online using eChecks. They can also stop by the Alexandria Office on Women to register and pick up individual or team t-shirts prior to the Walk.
