Alexandria Man Shot in Possible Robbery Attempt

Alexandria police are investigating the shooting of a 19-year-old Alexandria man in the West End. Today, at 6:13 a.m., police and medics responded to the 3500 block of Duke Street for the report of a weapon violation and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

The victim was transported by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he will undergo surgery. He is in serious, but stable condition.

Initial investigation indicates that the victim was riding in a car with two friends on his way home. They observed a light-colored van following them and they stopped in 5100 block of Knapp Place. Two suspects got out of the van and approached the victim and his friends. One of the suspects had a gun and ordered the victim out of the car. Before the victim could exit the car, the suspect shot him. The victim’s friends drove him from Knapp Place to the 3500 block of Duke Street and called 911.

Detectives believe the suspects may have been attempting a carjacking.

The suspects are described as black males wearing masks. There is no further description of the suspect vehicle.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Alexandria police at 703.838.4444.
