Alexandria Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Shooting

Alexandria detectives have made an arrest in the homicide that occurred early this morning. Javon N. Garvin, 23, was charged with First Degree Murder for the shooting death of Ronnie Lamont Lee, 18, of Northwest Washington.

Today, at 12:39 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of East Mason Avenue for reports of subjects fighting and gunfire. Officers discovered the victim in a parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Inova Alexandria Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigation indicates that robbery was a motive for the shooting. The victim was with two friends in a parked car when the suspect approached them. The suspect displayed a gun and attempted to rob them of money. A struggle ensued and during the struggle, Garvin shot the victim in the upper body. Garvin fled from the scene but was later located.

Garvin, a resident of 1706 North Cliff Street in Alexandria, was formally charged this afternoon. He is being held without bond at the Alexandria jail.

Note: A photo of the suspect is not being released at this time as detectives still need to interview additional witnesses.
