Alexandria and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
Recognize 30 Naturalized Residents

The City of Alexandria will join the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services in recognizing 30 Alexandrians as naturalized US citizens. A ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13, which is Alexandria’s Citizenship Day, at City Hall’s Market Square, 301 King St. The event begins at 6 pm.

The Citizenship Day event recognizes US Constitution Day/National Citizenship Day, which is celebrated on Sept.17. On this day, civic and government groups across the country gather together to discuss, honor and celebrate the privileges and responsibilities of US citizenship and to honor both US-born and naturalized foreign-born citizens.

Alexandria residents who have become naturalized citizens have met the requirements for naturalization that include: a period of continuous residence and physical presence in the US; an ability to read, write and speak English; knowledge and understanding of US history and government; good moral character; and attachment to the principles of the US Constitution. The honorees will be sworn in and will take the oath of allegiance for US citizenship.

For more information, call JoAnn Maldonado, the City’s Multicultural Services Initiative Coordinator, at 703.838.0709.
