Alexandria Teenager Charged with Stabbing Three Police Officers

Alexandria detectives have charged a 17-year-old Alexandria male with three counts of Malicious Wounding of a Law Enforcement Officer after he stabbed three Alexandria officers early this morning.

Around 1:30 a.m. today, officers stopped the subject in the 300 block of Duke Street after one officer saw him looking into parked cars with a flashlight. Officers approached him and when they began to question him, he started to fight. During the struggle, the suspect cut three officers with a knife as they attempted to gain control. One officer used O.C. (pepper) spray, but the suspect managed to escape on foot.

Police gave chase and approximately two hours later, officers captured the suspect hiding in an alley on South Columbus Street between Prince and King streets. He was taken into custody without further incident. He was formally charged late this morning. Because he is a juvenile, police are not releasing his name, address or photo.

Two of the injured officers, one suffering a cut to the neck and the other with a cut to the arm, were transported to Inova Alexandria Hospital where they were both treated and released. The third officer sustained stab wounds to the abdomen and arm. He was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital where underwent surgery and was later released.

All three officers were wearing body armor at the time of the attack.
