Three Alexandria Police Officers are Stabbed
While Investigating a Suspicious Subject in Old Town

This morning, at approximately 1:30 a.m., police stopped a man in the 300 block of Duke Street. The man was acting suspiciously as he was found looking into parked cars with a flashlight.

While police detained the man and began their questioning, the suspect started to fight with officers on the scene. During the fight, the suspect slashed at or stabbed three officers with a knife as they attempted to gain control. OC spray was used by one of the officers however, the suspect managed to escape on foot. Two of the injured officers were transported to Inova Alexandria Hospital where they were both treated for their non-life threatening injuries. One officer was stabbed in the arm and the other in the neck. The third officer sustained stab wounds to the abdomen and arm and he was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he is being treated for his non-life threatening injuries.

Police gave chase and eventually captured the suspect, who is identified as a 17-year-old Alexandria man, hiding in an alleyway on South Columbus Street between Prince and King Streets. The suspect was taken into custody and felony charges are pending. Detectives were called to the scene and continue to investigate this case.
