City of Alexandria Announces Schedule
Of Pool Closings for Season and Maintenance


The City of Alexandria is announcing the following schedule of outdoor pool closings for the summer 2005:

• The Nannie J. Lee Pool, 1108 Jefferson St.; the Nicholas Colasanto Pool, 2704 Mount Vernon Ave.; and the John Ewald Pool, 4500 Duke St., will close for the summer on Friday, Aug. 19. The Charles Houston Pool, 901 Wythe St., will remain closed for repairs.

• Beginning Monday, Aug. 22, the Old Town Pool, 1609 Cameron St.; and Warwick Pool, 3301 Landover St., will remain open until Labor Day, Monday, Sept. The operating hours for the Old Town Pool are noon - 7 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Warwick Pool is open noon - 7 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; and 11 am - 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Admission fees for both pools are $1 for children, ages 7 - 17, and seniors 60 & older; and $2 for adults, ages 18 - 59.

The Dr. Robert S. Rixse Memorial Indoor Pool at the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, 3210 King St., is open Monday through Thursday from 6 am - 9:45 pm; Friday from 6 am - 7:45 pm; and Saturday and Sunday from 8 am - 6:45 pm. The Rixse Pool is scheduled to close for maintenance on Monday, Sept. 5, at 2:45 pm and re-open on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6 am. Admission for City residents to the pool is $3 for youth and seniors 60 and older; $5 for ages 16 and older; and $8 for nonresidents.
