Alexandria Man Suffering From Dementia Reported Missing

Alexandria police are investigating a missing person case involving an elderly man. John P. Steele went for a walk yesterday afternoon and did not return home. Mr. Steele, who goes by “Jack,” suffers from dementia, and police are concerned for his welfare.

Mr. Steele lives alone at a residence in the 1600 block of Chapel Hill Drive and he regularly walks along the Seminary Road and Duke Street corridors in the West End of Alexandria. On Saturday, July 30, Mr. Steele was seen around noon walking east in the 4500 block of Seminary Road. When he did not return home last night, friends called police.

Since then, police have circulated his photo among West End business and communities. Officers have searched his neighborhood and along Seminary Road. Additionally, Fairfax County Police Department’s helicopter and bloodhound conducted extensive searches.

Jack Steele is a white male, 70 years old, 5-feet 10-inches tall, 170 pounds, clean-shaven with grey hair and distinctive bushy eyebrows. He was last seen wearing dark pants and a tan polo shirt with the logo of an automobile museum.

Anyone who has seen Mr. Steele is asked to call the Alexandria Police Department at 703.838.4444.
