Alexandria City Council Honors First Graduates of Alexandria Citizens Academy

The Alexandria City Council honored the first graduates of the Alexandria Citizens Academy. The 15 recent graduates began the pilot program in April.

The Citizens Academy seeks to help local residents learn more about the structure, functions, and activities of the Alexandria City government, to encourage them to become involved, and to enhance their ability to communicate effectively with City officials. The Academy is held weekly at City Hall in two hour sessions over the course of eight weeks.

The Citizens Academy will be offered twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. It is open to all City residents over the age of 18 years and owners of businesses that are located in the City. Classes are limited to 15 to 20 students. The next Citizens Academy will begin in late September.

For more information on the Alexandria Citizens Academy, email Rose Williams Boyd, Director of Citizen Assistance, at rose.boyd@alexandriava.gov or call 703.838.4800.
