Alexandria City Council Approves After School Transportation Program

The Alexandria City Council recently approved a memorandum of understanding for the City to receive funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to support the establishment of an after school transportation program.

The FTA grant will be used to purchase two vans to transport children. The City will provide a 20 percent match to hire staff and offset operational expenses for the new after school program.

The transit grant was facilitated by Congressman Jim Moran to help establish an after school transportation program. The Recreation Rider Program is part of the City’s strategic plan to improve and increase connectivity within and through the city by transit, car, bicycle, or walking.

For more information about the Recreation Rider Program, call the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities at 703.838.4343.
