Alexandria Library Launches Summer Reading Quest Program

The Alexandria Library will launch the Summer Reading Quest program at all branches on Monday, June 20. The program seeks to encourage school children, ages 6 to 12, to read during their summer vacation, use the library, and develop the habit of reading. The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Quest is “FUNtastic Reading.”

The Burke Branch will hold its first Summer Reading Quest event on Thursday, June 23, at 7 pm, and feature storyteller Candance Wolf. The Beatley Central Branch will begin its Summer Reading Quest on Wednesday, June 29, at 4 pm with magician Joe Romano. The temporary Duncan Branch site will open the Summer Reading Quest season with crafts and stories on Wednesday, June 29, at 3 pm. The Barrett Branch will begin with a craft program on Thursday, June 30, at 4 pm.

The Alexandria Library holds other summer activities that include Stories in the Park at Fort Ward Area 7, on Wednesdays at 11 am from June 22 to July 27. The Beatley Central Branch will offer a Teen Reading Program, featuring a video and film workshop on Saturday, July 9, at 2 pm, a t-shirt decoration on Tuesday, July 19, at 4 pm, and a Poetry Caf� on Tuesday Aug. 2, at 7 pm.
