Transit Meetings Are Scheduled on Crystal City and Potomac Yard Corridor

The City of Alexandria and Arlington County are inviting the public to participate in a series of workshops and open houses to develop transit plans for the Crystal City and Potomac Yard Corridor. A number of meetings are scheduled with various groups to get input on the future of transit in the area.

A shareholder meeting for civic association leaders and members will be held on Wednesday, June 8, from 5:30-7 pm at the Cora Kelly Recreation Center, 25 W. Reed Ave. A public workshop will follow from 7:30-9:30 pm. Two open houses are scheduled for Friday, June 10, at the Grace Episcopal Church, 3601 Russell Rd., from 11:30 am-1 pm and 6-7:30 pm. The initial findings from the shareholder meeting and public workshop will be presented at the open houses.

The meetings are being held as part of a study funded and led by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Between now and mid-2006, new development will bring 2,000 new jobs and 1,000 new residents to the Crystal City and Potomac Yard Corridor, creating an increase in transportation demands. New Metrorail and Bus Rapid Transit stations will be considered for this future growth. Both the City and Arlington County are seeking public input on the design, amenities, and other operational characteristics.

For more information on the transit meetings, call 703.300.3981.
