Historic Warship Visits Alexandria

The USS-LST 325, a restored World War II warship, will visit the City of Alexandria from May 27-30. Tours of the historic warship will take place at the Robinson Terminal, located at the end of Oronoco Street and N. Union Street, from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Admission prices are $5 for children through age 18 and $10 for adults. Proceeds from the tours will benefit the restoration, maintenance, and voyage costs of the USS-LST 325.

The veteran warship is making stops around the country to raise awareness of the role and history of the Landing, Ship, and Tank (LST) in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. The ship stands as a memorial to those who fought and died, as well as the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. Mayor William D. Euille will participate in a wreath laying ceremony and receive the “Keys to the Boat” on May 27 at 10 am.

The USS-LST 325 is the only ship of its kind that docks and is open for tours. The ship was involved in the invasion of Italy, made 44 round trips during the D-Day invasion, and in 1964 began serving as a vessel in the Greek Navy. In 2001 it sailed to the U.S. from Greece under the command of a group of veterans with an average age of 72. Crew members and volunteers seeking to preserve the historical ship have done the upkeep and restoration since 2000.

For more information on the USS-LST 325, visit or call 888.738.2764. For group tour information, call 703.838.4200, extension 209.
