Alexandria Commission on Aging Honors Individuals and Organizations The Alexandria Commission on Aging has honored two individuals and two organizations with the 2005 Excellence in Aging Awards for demonstrating superior contributions in advancing issues and projects that favorably affect older residents. The awards were presented at the Successful Aging luncheon on May 9. The recipients of this year’s awards were Del. Marion Van Landingham, Leslie Herzog, the Charles Houston Senior Center, and the Alexandria Adult Day Services Center. Del. Marion Van Landingham was awarded the Annie B. Rose Lifetime Achievement Award for consistently giving voice to the aged, persons with disabilities, and the ordinary citizen. Leslie Herzog, a former director of The Campagna Center’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), received the Lois Van Valkenburg Award for providing several years of leadership service that enabled the RSVP to expand volunteer opportunities in environmental issues and strengthen community partnerships. The Excellence in Aging Award for an organization was presented to the Charles Houston Senior Center for providing a rich array of programs for seniors that include exercise, faith-based programs, cultural outings, and technological training. The Alexandria Adult Day Services Center received an Excellence in Aging Award for providing dedicated and caring services to seniors who benefit from the daily therapeutic activities and medical supervision.
