City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services
For Monday, May 30, in Observance of Memorial Day


City government offices will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day.

The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Saturday, May 28, and Monday, May 30.

The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on May 30. HOV restrictions on Washington St. and Route 1 will be lifted on May 30.

City Schools will be closed on May 30.

DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on May 30.

City recreation centers will be closed on May 30 except for the Chinquapin Recreation Center, which will open from 8 am to 5 pm.

City libraries will be closed on May 30.

Residential trash and recycling will not be collected on May 30. All collection services will be delayed by one day the week of May 30.

State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department, will be closed on May 30.

The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is sponsoring the City’s 28th Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival on May 30 from 1 to 7 pm at Fort Ward Park, 4301 W. Braddock Rd. Admission is free. Radio personality Vanniece Johnson of WJZW “Smooth Jazz” 105.9 will serve as this year’s master of ceremonies. The festival will feature music by the Kaleidoscope Orchestra, Yvonne Johnson, the Larry Brown Quintet, Al Williams, the James Bazen Big Band, and others.
