Input Sought for Proposed Potomac Yard Development
Planning Commission Hosts Community Meeting May 3

The City of Alexandria is seeking community input for the development at Potomac Yard, the 165-acre former railroad yard site that lies primarily between the George Washington Memorial Parkway and Route 1 in the northeastern area of the City. The Planning Commission is holding a series of community meetings and work sessions to provide an opportunity for residents to learn about development plans for the site and to provide input. The third in this series of meetings is scheduled for May 3 at 6 pm in Council Chambers, City Hall, 301 King St. This meeting will focus on the site plan for landbay H, the area adjacent to and north of the Swann Avenue extension. Representatives from nearby community groups and all interested residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the meeting.

A concept plan for the Potomac Yard site was approved in 1999 and provides for a maximum of 1.9 million square feet of office space, a 625-room hotel, 135,000 square feet of new retail space, and 1,927 residential units, all organized into a series of parcels, or landbays. Through the City’s Special Use Permit process, the landbays are under review.
