Alexandria Library’s Barrett Branch
Celebrates 5th Open House


Alexandria Library’s Barrett Branch will celebrate its 5th Open House and with a variety of activities on Saturday, April 23, from 9 am to 5 pm.

The Friends of Barrett Branch will conduct its first Silent Auction from 9 am to 4:45 pm. The public is invited to bid on a variety of items including two round trip tickets to anywhere Independence Air flies.. Bids will be collected at 4:45 sharp. All proceeds will be used to enhance library services for children and adults, and provide funds to supplement library resources.

A luncheon by Bittersweet Catering will be served at 12:45 pm. Face-painting for kids will begin at 11 am and end at 3 pm. A short Library Employee Recognition Awards ceremony will begin at 12:30 pm.

Musical performers will include The Mount Vernon Dixieland Jazz Band, playing from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, and Fuzzy Logic (contemporary soft rock), playing from 3 to 4:30 pm.

The Barrett Branch library was built in 1937 and named in honor of Kate Waller Barrett, a humanitarian, social crusader and political reformer. The branch offers a large collection of adult and juvenile books, books-on-tape, books on CD, music CDs, videos and DVDs, with an emphasis on popular materials. In addition, the Barrett provides Internet and word processing stations for free public use.
