Alexandria City Council Tours Phase Two
Of King Street Metrorail Expansion Project

Alexandria City Council members joined representatives from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority today for a site tour of phase two of the King Street Metrorail Expansion Project. The King Street Metrorail Expansion Project, another element of the City Council’s Strategic Plan pedestrian element, consists of the design and construction of a new mezzanine entrance on the north side of the station; a new elevated walkway across Commonwealth Avenue at the intersection of Cameron Street; two new elevators and a stairway to provide access to the elevated walkway; a new canopy; a new station kiosk; farecard machines and restrooms. The expected completion date for phase two of the project is late fall 2005.

Phase one of the project, which was completed in June 2002, included the construction of a new north entrance for the existing mezzanine. The King Street Metro Station is located at 1900 King St.
