City of Alexandria’s Open Space Fund
Online Contributions Option Now Available

In May 2003, the Alexandria City Council adopted an Open Space Plan which set ambitious open space acquisitions goals for the City as part of the City’s overall Master Plan.

The City Council also in the spring of 2003 started dedicating and allocating 1 cent from the City’s real estate tax rate for the purchase of open space land and conservation easements in support of the City’s Open Space Plan. This 1 cent brings in over $2.7 million each year to help the City meet its open space goals.

Persons who are interested in assisting the City’s open space effort with their private donations can make direct contributions in any amount to the Open Space Fund through the City’s eChecks service at alexandriava.gov/finance. Contributions for this purpose to the City government are tax deductible.

For more information, call Laura Durham, Open Space Coordinator, of the City’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities at 703.838.5041; Craig Fifer, E-Government Manager, at 703.838.6333, extension 537; or visit the City’s web site at alexandriava.gov.
