Alexandria Human Rights Commission Recognizes Local Students
With Student Human Rights Award

The Alexandria Human Rights Commission is presenting up to three Student Human Rights Awards to local high school juniors and seniors and first-year college students attending Northern Virginia Community College. The award recognizes students for their contributions in improving basic human rights and fairness in the City. The Alexandria City Council will present the award –a commemorative plaque and $500– to the winner or winners in late May.

Students interested in applying for the award must submit a letter of recommendation and a 1,000-word essay that explains how the student or student’s group promoted cooperation and understanding across racial, cultural, religious, or ethnic lines, or promoted respect, equality, and a greater understanding between genders, or for persons with disabilities, during the current academic year. Submissions must be mailed or hand delivered by Friday, May 6, to the Director of the Office of Human Rights, 421 King St., Suite 400, Alexandria, VA 22314.

For more information, call the Office of Human Rights at 703.838.6390.
