Alexandria Seeks Grant Proposals
For Neighborhood Partnership Program
Residents Can Play Greater Role
In Enhancing Quality of Life in Communities

The City of Alexandria announces a request for project proposals through a program designed to encourage residents to play a greater role in enhancing the quality of life in their communities. The City’s Neighborhood Partnership Program is open to all neighborhood civic associations within Alexandria. The program offers matching grants of up to $5,000 for small neighborhood improvement projects, including small capital improvement, beautification and community building projects. Grants must be matched by the same amount of volunteer labor, donated materials and supplies or cash donations.

City staff will review all proposed projects to determine if the application meets the requirements of the program and to ensure that the project is compatible within existing City plans. The deadline for submitting the proposal review form is by 4 pm on Thursday, March 24. The deadline for submitting the grant application is by 4 pm on Thursday, May 19. Successful applicants will be notified by Monday, June 27, and will have one year to complete their projects.

Grant applications will be evaluated based on neighborhood benefit, project feasibility, community support and involvement, matching resources and proposal innovation. Awards will be limited to a maximum of $5,000 and applicants will be required to identify matching resources, including cash and in-kind contributions. Applicants will be responsible for project fund management. In most situations the City will reimburse the applicant for expenses incurred during the course of the project, although in some circumstances, the City may advance funds to successful applicants.

Complete instructions and applications are available online at alexandriava.gov/neighborhoods or by contacting the City’s Office of Management and Budget at 703.838.4806, extension 382.
