City of Alexandria Invites Public Input on Master Plan
For Restoration of Neighborhood Watershed

The City of Alexandria is inviting the public to attend the Four Mile Run Visioning Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm (The snow date is Saturday, Feb. 12). The event takes place at the Charles Barrett Elementary School, 1115 Martha Custis Drive. Registration begins at 8:30 am. During the workshop, representatives and residents from the City and Arlington County will discuss and gather input on a new master plan on the restoration of the lower section of Four Mile Run.

Four Mile Run is a neighborhood watershed that runs from the I-395 at the upstream end to the mouth at the Reagan National Airport. A combined effort of citizens and staff from the City of Alexandria, Arlington County, the US Environmental Protection Agency, the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, and Congressman Jim Moran's Office has been coordinating environmental restoration and urban planning focused on the channel portion of Four Mile Run. Restoring Four Mile Run would result in the enhancement of aquatic (in-stream) and riparian (adjacent-to-stream) habitats and the establishment of the run as a focal point reflecting its value as a community resource.

For more information on Four Mile Run, call Aileen Winquist at 703.228.3610 or visit www.novaregion.org/restoration.htm.
