Rape Suspect Rigoberto Ramos Under Arrest;
U.S. Marshals Apprehend Fugitive in Summer Park Assault

Monday evening, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Rigoberto Ramos who had been wanted for a sexual assault in Alexandria. The task force, which is part of the U.S. Marshals Service, apprehended Ramos around 6 p.m. on January 10, as he was riding in a car in Prince William County.

Ramos, 24, was transported to Alexandria where detectives formally charged him with Rape for the July 2, 2004, assault of a 22-year-old Alexandria woman. In the daylight attack, Ramos and another suspect, Jose Daniel Bonilla, raped the victim at gunpoint in Holmes Run Park and then fled. The next week, both suspects were identified and Bonilla was arrested, but Ramos had been on the run since then.

The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force has been working since July to apprehend Ramos and the Alexandria Police Department sincerely appreciates their efforts. The task force, made up of representatives from area law enforcement agencies, targets the most dangerous fugitives wanted for crimes in the Metropolitan Washington region.

Alexandria detectives would also like to acknowledge the assistance of the Prince William County Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit and Officer Jesse Thornton of the Fairfax County Police Department. While on patrol, Officer Thornton stopped Ramos and Bonilla and alerted Alexandria investigators, believing the two matched descriptions of the then unidentified suspects.
