Alexandria Man Charged with Malicious Wounding in Attack;
Victims in Retirement Home Assault Recovering from Injuries
Alexandria police have charged Mustafa Mohamed, a 30-year-old Alexandria man, with two counts of Malicious Wounding for yesterday’s attack at a retirement home. Mohamed is suspected of assaulting several people at the Goodwin House where he worked on the housekeeping staff.
Police were called to the facility at 4800 Fillmore Avenue at 2:43 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, after a staff member reported that Mohamed was attacking people on the second floor with a knife. A visitor disarmed the suspect and arriving officers immediately took him into custody.
The victims suffered lacerations and other injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. The victims include:
• An 88-year-old female resident who refused medical treatment.
• A 94-year-old female resident who was taken to Inova Alexandria Hospital, treated and released.
• A 92-year-old female resident who was taken to Inova Alexandria Hospital and admitted.
• A 94-year-old female resident who was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital and admitted.
• A 40-year-old female employee and Arlington resident who was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, treated and released.
• A 62-year-old male visitor and Fairfax County resident who was taken to Inova Alexandria Hospital, treated and released.
Mohamed, a resident of 2500 North Van Dorn Street, #428, in Alexandria, is being held without bond at the Alexandria jail. A motive for the attack remains under investigation.
