Pedestrian Critically Injured in Crash


Alexandria police are investigating a traffic accident that critically injured a pedestrian. The crash occurred at 5:47 p.m. today in the 3100 block of Commonwealth Avenue.

Initial investigation indicates that a 1997 Chevrolet van was traveling south on Commonwealth Avenue when it struck the victim, who, according to witnesses, was lying down in the roadway prior to impact.

The driver of the van, a 60-year-old Oxon Hill, Md., woman, remained at the scene. The pedestrian, a 42-year-old Alexandria woman, was taken by ambulance to Inova Fairfax Hospital where she is in critical condition.

The Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. No charges have been filed.
