Motorist Dies After Striking Curbside Tree

An unidentified woman died as a result of a one car accident that occurred in the 2000 block of Jefferson Davis Highway at 6:30 a.m. this morning.

Investigation revealed that the motorist was traveling southbound on Jefferson Davis Highway when her vehicle began to swerve. It appears that the victim lost control of her 1999 dark blue Ford Explorer, crossed over the median strip into the northbound lanes of traffic, and crashed into a tree. There was considerable damage to the vehicle. Medic units responded and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alexandria police blocked the north and southbound lanes of traffic on Jefferson Davis Highway between East Howell and Hume Avenues while the Crash Reconstruction Unit collected evidence and began their investigation. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation and the victim’s identity has not been determined.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the victim’s cause of death. For further information please contact the Public Information Office.
