City’s Open Space Steering Committee Extends
Nomination Process for 2005 Open Space Priority List

The City of Alexandria’s Open Space Steering Committee has extended the nomination process for the City’s 2005 Open Space Priority List. Nomination forms must be submitted by Monday, Jan. 31, to be considered by the Open Space Steering Committee for recommendations to City Council in the spring of 2005.

The Open Space Steering Committee consists of residents who volunteer their time to provide assistance in implementing the City’s Open Space Plan. The committee, which was formed in October 2003, suggests specific properties for protection by a variety of means, including easements, donations, rights of first refusal and acquisition. The work of the committee is part of the implementation of the City’s Open Space Plan, which was approved by City Council in June 2003. Members of the committee include the chairpersons and representatives of the City’s Planning Commission, the Environmental Policy Commission, and the Park and Recreation Commission as well as other Alexandria residents.
