First Night Alexandria Hosts
10th Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration

First Night Alexandria will celebrate its 10th anniversary of New Year’s Eve celebrations this year in historic Old Town with the biggest line up of entertainers and venues to date.

A City-wide celebration of the performing arts is planned at 28 different venues with a host of entertainers, ending with a fireworks show at the stroke of midnight at the George Washington Masonic Temple.

New venues include the atrium at the Patent & Trade Office, as well as the Durant Recreation Center, the Seaport Foundation, the Carlyle House and the Mt. Vernon Recreation Center.

Entertainment will feature Alexandria’s own world-renowned Scottish fiddler Bonnie Rideout who will perform three shows at the Masonic Temple. At the Torpedo Factory Arts Center, celebrants will rock to Bill Kirchen and Too Much Fun. Jazz enthusiasts will enjoy Not So Modern Jazz at Union Station. Other venues will feature blues, cappella, folk music, Irish music, Latin salsa dance music, classic violinists, cellists, acoustic guitar and good old rock and roll.

Children of all ages will also enjoy First Night Alexandria. Magician Mike Rose returns at the Little Theatre of Alexandria. Teddy the Clown and face painters will be on hand in the Assembly Hall at the Masonic Temple. Musical duo Milk Shake and other children’s entertainers will perform at Jefferson-Houston School. Sea-worthy kids and their parents will enjoy building and racing their own miniature sailboats at the Seaport Foundation. Talented teens will compete at the Second Annual Teen Talent Contest at the Durant Recreation Center. Winners will get cash prizes and the opportunity to perform at the 2005 First Night event.

Admission badges will be available for purchase online at www.FirstNightAlexandria.org. Admission is $10 before Dec. 26 and $15 afterwards (children under age 12 are free with a paying adult). The cost for First Night Fun Packs, which contain admission badges for four, noisemakers, venue maps and more, is $40.
