Police Seek Identity of Alexandria Bank Robber

The Alexandria Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are attempting to identify a man who robbed an Alexandria bank last week. The man was caught on surveillance video and police are releasing a photo from security tape in an effort to identify him.

On Friday, December 3, just before 2 p.m., the suspect entered the Wachovia Bank at 330 North Washington Street. He approached the teller and demanded money. The victim teller complied, and the suspect then fled from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. No weapon was seen and no one was injured.

The suspect is described as a black male, 40 to 50 years old, 5'7" tall and 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a grey knit cap, dark coat, and uniform-type clothing. The suspect walked with an unusual gait.

Anyone knowing the suspect’s identity is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Section of the Alexandria Police Department at 703-838-4444 or 703-838-4711.

Note: A photo of the suspect from the bank’s security camera will be e-mailed to the media and is posted on the City’s website (www.alexandriava.gov) under “More News.”
