Police Appeal to Community in Nancy Dunning Case;
Giant Banner, Police Presence in Del Ray on Anniversary of Murder

This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of the murder of Nancy Dunning and Alexandria police will unveil a giant banner appealing for information in the unsolved case. The banner will be displayed on the side of the police command bus which will be parked at the corner of Mount Vernon and East Oxford avenues on Saturday, December 4, from 8 a.m. to noon.

The banner, measuring 4-feet by 7 -feet, features a picture of Mrs. Dunning and reads, “Do you know who killed Nancy Dunning?" The banner and command bus will be adjacent to the Del Ray Farmers Market, a busy location frequented by neighbors and nearby business people.

Nancy Dunning, 56, was found shot to death on December 5, 2003, inside her home on West Mount Ida Avenue. Police believe that she was targeted and that her murder could be connected to an event or relationship in her recent past.

The banner was produced and donated by Ken Boland of Affordable Signs & Banners, a locally-owned business located on Mount Vernon Avenue. The same business produced a similar banner during the Kevin Shifflett murder investigation in 2000.

Note: An image of the banner appears below.
