City Holds Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for New Home
Of Health Department and West End Clubhouse

The Alexandria City Council will join the Alexandria Public Health Commission and the Alexandria Community Services Board for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially celebrate the new home of the Alexandria Health Department and the Alexandria Community Service Board’s West End Clubhouse. The ceremony will take place at the new location, 4480 King St., on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 5 pm. A reception that is open to the public will precede the dedication ceremony at 4 pm.

The new building will be home to more than 100 Health Department employees and will continue to provide services such as children’s health and immunization, child and adult dental care, environmental health, family planning and well woman care, HIV/STD counseling and testing, and TB control and screening. It will also continue to operate the Women, Infants and Children nutrition program and the Parent-Infant Education Program that teaches about child development.

The City’s Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse runs the West End Clubhouse, a program that offers advocacy, vocational services, and family support services to clients. The new location includes The Friends Caf, which provides real-life work experience for clients who are adults with mental illnesses. The Clubhouse was previously located at 110 N. Patrick St. for more than 20 years. The Clubhouse moved to 4480 King St. to acquire a larger space for program services.

The Alexandria Health Department moved to its new location after 60 years at 517 N. St. Asaph St. The move will help the agency provide better programs and services at a location more convenient for the population that is served the most. The new building includes additional patient parking as well as transportation by DASH and Metro buses, a shuttle bus from Braddock Road Metro Station, and the Health Department van.

For more information on the Health Department move or about services offered by the AHD, call 703.838.4400 or visit www.alexhealth.com. For additional information on the West End Clubhouse, call 703.838.6400.
