Police Release Photo of Woman Suspected in Abduction;
Two-Year-Old Girl Taken in Custody Dispute

Alexandria police are releasing a photo of a woman who abducted a little girl from her legal guardian earlier this week. Detectives have also learned additional details about the suspect and believe her correct legal name is Mariel Aracely Montiel.

Montiel is believed to have taken two-year-old Ashley Montiel from her guardian on the night of Sunday, November 7. At that time Montiel appeared at Ashley’s home in the 1400 block of North Beauregard Street with two unknown men. She took Ashley and then threatened her guardian, a 27-year-old Alexandria woman. Though Montiel is Ashley’s mother, she does not have legal custody.

Mariel Aracely Montiel is described as a 26-year-old white Hispanic woman, 5'2" tall, and weighing 105 pounds. She has dark hair and brown eyes. Her last known address was in South Arlington, and she may be known in the Washington area gay community. Detectives believe she might be working as a cook. She could be using the names Mariela Montiel or Aracely Montel.

Ashley Montiel has short brown hair, brown eyes and pierced ears.

Anyone who has information about Ashley or Mariel Montiel’s whereabouts is asked to call Alexandria police at 703.838.4444.
