Two-Year-Old Girl Abducted in Custody Dispute;
Police Seek Public’s Assistance in Locating Victim

Alexandria police are investigating the abduction of a two-year-old girl in an apparent custody dispute. Ashley Montiel was taken from her legal guardian at their home in the 1400 block of North Beauregard Street two days ago. Her guardian reported that Ashley’s mother, who does not have legal custody, took Ashley on Sunday, November 7, around 9:30 p.m. Ashley’s guardian notified police the following morning.

Detectives are concerned for Ashley’s welfare and are encouraging her mother, Mariela Montiel, to return her. Montiel is described as a 26-year-old white Hispanic woman, approximately 5'1" to 5'4" tall, and weighing between 100 and 120 pounds. Very little is known about her background and police do not know where she has been living or working. She may also be using the name Margarita Damian Cervantez. There is no photo of her available.

Ashley has short brown hair, brown eyes and pierced ears.

Anyone who has information about Ashley or Mariela Montiel’s whereabouts is asked to call Alexandria police at 703.838.4444.
