“Rethink Recycling” on America Recycles Day in Alexandria
As part of America Recycles Day, the City of Alexandria will host a “Rethink Recycling” Art Display on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the newly refurbished Durant Recreation Center, 1605 Cameron St. The display will be open from10 am - 2 pm and is a joint project of the City’s Office of Recycling, the Alexandria Library, and the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. The Art Display will debut following the dedication ceremony for the new Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Center, Alexandria’s main center for visual and performing arts.

The recycling artwork was created at Recreation Centers by students with old materials which could have been thrown away. Plastic bottles, soda cans, and industrial foam scraps have been “reused” to create art masterpieces.

At the Nov. 13 event, the public will be invited to “rethink recycling” by renewing Alexandria’s commitment to recycling. The public can complete pledge cards that will be entered into a national drawing for prizes, including the Grand Prize–a Ford Escape HYBRID vehicle. Runner-up prizes include bicycles made from recycled aluminum.
