Mirant Community Monitoring Group Plans
Public Meeting on Mirant Potomac River Power Plant

The Mirant Community Monitoring Group has scheduled a community public information meeting for representatives from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to present and discuss the recent Mirant consent decree and consent order. The meeting will take place at the Lyceum, 201 S. Washington St., on Monday, Nov. 1, at 7 pm.

The Alexandria City Council recently formed the Mirant Community Monitoring Group to serve as a central information-receiving and monitoring group for issues involving the Mirant Potomac River Power Plant. The group is composed of seven members: Poul Hertel, Elizabeth Chimento, a representative from North Old Town Independent Citizens Association (NOTICe), a representative from Marina Towers, a representative from the Northeast Citizens Association, a representative from the Environmental Policy Commission, and two members of Council: Vice Mayor Del Pepper and Paul Smedberg.

Participants of the meeting will learn and discuss air quality issues related to the Mirant Potomac River Power Plant; what changes will likely occur at the Mirant Potomac River Power Plant as a result of the consent decree and what other issues and actions may impact the facility.

For more information on the meeting, call the City’s Department of Transportation & Environmental Services at 703.838.4334.
